Working - American Release
The fairly amusing anime Working!! has been released in the United States under the terrible title “Wagneria!!” This unfortunate bit of regionalization is apparently due to copyright issues. However, if there was indeed a rights issue over the title “Working ” with the short lived 1997 Fred Savage sitcom, I wish NIS Inc. would have tried a little harder to find a new title. While Wagneria is the name of the fictional restaurant the anime is set in, a parody of the Japanese budget Italian chain Saizeriya, its’ hardly the most inspiring or informative title. Due to the American unfamiliarity with Saizeriya, the association falls flat and at best the average person might think the show has something to do with Richard Wagner. Now, an anime based on the operas or the life of Richard Wagner might just prove to be interesting but the connotations are far removed from the simplicity of the original title. This might mean a tough road in the US for a decently funny little show that was just renewed for a new season.
